AirBand Acquires Fixed Wireless Business of Baltimore's Accelacom
Potomac Tech Wire, Mar 29, 2005
Baltimore -- AirBand Communications, the largest fixed wireless company in the U.S., said on Tuesday that it has acquired the fixed wireless business of Accelacom, a Baltimore-based broadband service provider. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition gives airBand a broadband network in Baltimore with a customer base that includes such clients as Under Armour, Mercy Hospital, Howard County General Hospital and the University of Maryland Diagnostic Center. Most of Accelacom's are expected to join airBand, including its president, Christopher Camut, who will now serve as airBand's vice president of the Mid-Atlantic region. No layoffs are planned, airBand said. AirBand said that the deal is the first of many that it plans to consummate, as it looks to expand its coverage area and overall market presence. The company currently operates in the Dallas, Houston and Phoenix markets.
