Summary
The Network Architect/Planner is responsible for the network design and architecture; working with a team of network engineers; improving and maintaining network reliability; providing engineering support for the installation of new customers; meeting or exceeding performance criteria in customer service level agreements integrating networks from M&A transactions; assisting with developing annual budgets for network expansion/maintenance; maintaining regulatory compliance. Large scale and service provider network experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for defining network architecture and associated standards.
  • Manage network engineering integration and expansion through mergers and acquisitions.
  • Minimize service disruption and customer impact from routine network augmentation, preventative maintenance and enhancements.
  • Understand the key technical aspects of the broadband system.
  • Maintain the Cisco network environment and assist with the implementation of new solutions as needed.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and trends reports
  • This individual must have a strong working knowledge of Cisco products (26xx, 72xx VXR, 12xxx routers).
  • Design and implement WAN solutions.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of Network Infrastructure.
  • Ensure the infrastructure drawings and documentation are up-to-date
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products, circuits and services.
  • Experience with routing protocols such as, OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
  • LAN protocols and transports such as TCP/IP, Gig-Ethernet, Fast-Ethernet, and Wireless
  • Experience with Cisco VoIP and Unified Communications (Call Manager and Cisco Unity)
  • Experience and support of WAN and MAN circuits such as MPLS, Frame Relay, ATM and Sonnet, DS1, DS3, OC3
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco IOS and CAT OS, and extensive knowledge of Point-to-Point concepts, entire suite for TCP/IP,OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS and BGP.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering; or equivalent related degree or a combination of education and work experience.
  • 5+ years experience in all phases of network engineering within the telecommunications service provider space.
  • 5+ years experience designing, evaluating and recommending networking solutions
  • In depth knowledge of telecom principals and terminology.
  • Experience in supporting mission-critical 24×7 telecom & network services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and in writing, as well as good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively while dealing with tactical issues.
  • Must be a team player, capable of functioning in a fast paced environment
  • Proficient computer skills.
